Solaratov's Shooting Resources

It was an interesting weekend. Due to a sump pump issue that needed emergency resolution, did not make it to the protest in Annapolis. Will try to find pics. However, Friday. . . went with a family member to the local gun shop to help him in his own firearm purchase. In the caliber he wanted, they only had one, which was. . .a bit pricey. They checked their stock, all their suppliers. . . it was the only firearm of that caliber to be had, anywhere– a huge change from only a few months ago, when I got mine, and there were a few knowcking around to choose from. Anything else would have basically been a backorder or custom, to be delivered months hence, if ever, depending on the whims of Fearless Leader O’Malley.
So, the family member went ahead with the purchase, while I bought him a cleaning kit and ear protection as a “Happy Inauguration Day” gift. (Yes, that was sarcasm. But he got the joke). The background check process, normally 7 calendar days, is estimated to take three weeks, due to the backlog in the State of Marylandistan.
I asked him, while some of the paperwork was being done, why he decided to get a gun now– especially considering the price of the purchase, and the somewhat disapproving reaction of his wife. He said “I wanted to get one while I still legally could. Before Obama and O’Malley made it impossible.” Considering that that is almost exactly what I said when I got mine, I understood the subtext of “So I won’t be caught completely unprepared”.
While we were there, there must have been 10-15 other people that came through, all buying or looking to buy or checking on orders. The shelves were more bare than not, simply because they couldn’t keep things in stock. At one point, the guys behind the counter were discussing an order of AR-15 lowers they were waiting to come in, and they had to pause, turn to the small crowd, and clarify “All of which are already bought and paid for, sorry!”
At another time, one person started using some hotter rhetoric about who owns the firearms in this country and why don’t we. . . take advantage of the fact. This was met with uncomfortable shuffling and sidelong glances, because everyone else was thinking “Entrapment? Who here works for whom?” (This is the state of things in Marylandistan. Trust is . . . a precious commodity, very difficult to find in these parts.)
As we left, the family member said that once his came in, we should go to the range together, to get mutually acquainted with each other’s guns. “Indeed”, I agreed, only partially tongue-in-cheek, “That way if one of us falls in the coming revolution, the other may pick up where the one left off.” He chuckled, not disagreeing, and said “And singing songs from Les Mis the whole time?”
This naturally became an improptu parking lot rendition of “Do you hear the people sing?”, sung by one tenor and one trained soprano as the two of us marched to our respective cars. . .
That was my Friday. Saturday was the Sump Pump Emergency Fix. Sunday went with Mom to the Dulles Home and renovation Show– my first remark upon entering was “Wow, the Expo center looks so different from when it’s a gun show!”– which garned a mix of horror and chuckels from those nearby.
Monday, in “Celebration”, I reached out to some people as part of my personal plans. . . can’t say much more on a gov’t computer, and likely won’t say much more on that for some time, as this is the internet, and I’m only a partial idiot. But, things progress.
It may not be as ideal as buying in person but http://www.gunbroker.com is a very good source for both new and used firearms.
Hey Zoph! Will you be making a “March for Life” post this year? Your last year’s post was brilliant.
Actually, Shal, I may “re-post”, simply because last year’s pretty much said it all. I may update it a bit, but I don’t know that I could say much any better than I did when in that unusual bout of candor . .
That would be great, too. Thank you! I was reading the “March for Life” post in CatholicBandita.com, which is a great read, and she mentions that Obama took the president of Planned Parenthood along with him to the inaugural church service. Sigh.
I can only think of Psalm 51:1.
Good update, Zoph! Lots of interesting stuff there, but the thing that made me laugh out loud was imagining you and him singing Les Mis songs in the parking lot. Our oldest son is prepping for a part in the play in a month or so, and around here, it’s “all Les Mis, all the time.” It’s not uncommon for some topic to come up and inspire both boys to belt out one of the numbers (one tenor and one bass) in the kitchen while we’re getting ready for dinner.
I’m gonna send Mrs. Tex out to see you. She gives me a hard time when I belt out a few lines of show tunes spontaneously. Maybe because it’s an Ethel Merman song or two.
Really tex? Ethel Merman?? That being said (because it was mandatory).. I’m sure Mrs. Tex appreciates the value inherent in a man who even knows what a musical is, much less one who can belt out a tune to fit the mood!!!
Thank you! brings back memories of my niece who channeled Ethel on a regular basis when she was about 7…. she grew up to be a model. and a lib. and then a “teacher” to boot. ugh.
At least she wasn’t a lawyer!
that would be my nephew…
oh, did I mention these are “ex” relatives??
Well, Glad to see someone got some sense M!
Tex I’d be willing to pay the price of admission to see a youtube of your Ethel Merman routine. But please… no tranny outfits.
You New Yorkers are a tough crowd…………and picky!
So awesome!
It’s great music. . . this, and the finale to Act I (One Day More) are my faves . . .
Here is something that might brighten up your day for all of you who are down. This is a video taken off the coast of Kona on the Big Island of Hawaii. It shows an amazing interaction between divers and a wild dolphin that was in need of assistance. http://m.youtube.com/#/watch?v=CCXx2bNk6UA&desktop_uri=%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DCCXx2bNk6UA
That is an awesome bit of HD recording. This guy was amping out and I am too. This was his greatest moment and he certainly is never gonna forget it. To be even remotely close to one of God’s beautiful creatures and to be able to witness, let alone take a huge part in it, this event is mind blowing. The communication of spirits and the awesomeness of God’s creation is just overwhelming. This is my opinion of course. Unbelievably beautiful. 10 **********’s IS NOT enough to rate this on a scale of 1-10. A MUST SEE!!!
Damnit. Another zombie with a gun stormed a campus, this time in northwest Houston.
I know shootings happen, but with this frequency? *W*T*F* CHUCK?
Last week, some zombie shot it up in New Mexico. This is freeky.
This is not coincidence. Hasn’t been since at least Aurora, the way I see it.
Which is to say, these are things we need proof of as well, because it is my firm belief that this is enemy action.
I’m thinking we are seeing the results of kids who are now adults who have been force-fed all those A.D.D. drugs and never learned how to tolerate, assimilate in society, and adjust their behaviors. These were the VERY same kids who were screaming at the tops of their lungs at grocery stores and the malls because they wanted something and they wouldn’t stop screaming until their parents caved in and got that thing that they were screaming for. The spoiled ADHD kids are now “grown up” and can buy guns. And now they won’t be able to handle their own feelings.
See my comments at the end of yesterdays OT. The medical examiner is lying regarding the weapon used at Sandy Hook. This administration is very comfortable manipulating the news. Bin laden (buried at sea), Fast and Furious, them welching on a gun deal leading to the Benghazi attack…. Personally, I think all those reported drone strikes against the terrorists (moslems) are BS too.
Can’t argue with any of that Barn…
So, you think the drone strikes are over-reported to give the illusion that we’re actually not soft on the Taliban? I wouldn’t be surprised. Do you think a lot of the drones are in service all ready over U.S. skies?
I interpreted BS to be a lot stronger than simply “over-reported”
I liken it to the ever present broadcasts of military victories in the film 1984. Oblamer green lighting assassinations and robotic strikes on his fellow moslems seems unlikely. The reports are gentle impersonal reminders that he is defending us. No warriors to honor. No medals to award. He gets all the credit. If any arabs are actually dying by drone strikes my money is on those selected by the moslem brotherhood.
Drones over the US? Hard to say. There is so much commercial and private air traffic it would be difficult to go unnoticed over much of the country. The satellites are doing that anyway.
Ever heard of OPEN SEASON?
Bird that is
Sorry barn. The plagiarism wasn’t intentional.
No apologies required.
This one proves, for the comrades, that people carrying guns are all just going to get into a gunfight when they don’t agree. The mass murder argument was a bust with major backlash; now to go for demonizing the ccw carrier. We are all gunslingers who get irrationally angry and think we can solve our problems with a bullet; out of control, violent, ready-to-explode at anytime, has major anger issues, and should be on meds and in anger management/reprogramming sessions. Yeppers.
Two of Trayvons brothers who apparently had a beef with each other. This should actually be a non-story, but I’m sure it’s gonna get spun like cotton candy.
Just finished watching FrackNation. Good rebuttal to that POS Gasland. If you get a chance to see it, it’s worth the 90 minutes. I saw it on AXS.tv on satellite.
I think this really says it all about yesterday. He’s a divider. He’s the anti-Reagan. Why can’t his minions see that? Are they that consumed by hatred of normal conservative people that they really just want us outta da way? It would appear so.

Also… this sums up the inaug pretty well, too.
