The Easter Homily of St. John Chrysostom:

If any man be devout and loveth God,
Let him enjoy this fair and radiant triumphal feast!
If any man be a wise servant,
Let him rejoicing enter into the joy of his Lord.

If any have laboured long in fasting,
Let him now receive his recompense.
If any have wrought from the first hour,
Let him today receive his just reward.
If any have come at the third hour,
Let him with thankfulness keep the feast.
If any have arrived at the sixth hour,
    Let him have no misgivings;
Because he shall in nowise be deprived therefore.
If any have delayed until the ninth hour,
Let him draw near, fearing nothing.
And if any have tarried even until the eleventh hour,
Let him, also, be not alarmed at his tardiness.

For the Lord, who is jealous of his honour,
Will accept the last even as the first.
He giveth rest unto him who cometh at the eleventh hour,
Even as unto him who hath wrought from the first hour.
And He showeth mercy upon the last,
    And careth for the first;
And to the one He giveth,
And upon the other He bestoweth gifts.
And He both accepteth the deeds,
    And welcometh the intention,
And honoureth the acts and praises the offering.

    Wherefore, enter ye all into the joy of your Lord;
    Receive your reward,
Both the first, and likewise the second.
You rich and poor together, hold high festival!
You sober and you heedless, honour the day!
Rejoice today, both you who have fasted
And you who have disregarded the fast.
The table is full-laden; feast ye all sumptuously.
The calf is fatted; let no one go hungry away.
Enjoy ye all the feast of faith:
Receive ye all the riches of loving-kindness.

Let no one bewail his poverty,
For the universal Kingdom has been revealed.
Let no one weep for his iniquities,
For pardon has shown forth from the grave.
    Let no one fear death,
For the Saviour’s death has set us free.
He that was held prisoner of it has annihilated it.

By descending into Hell, He made Hell captive.
He embittered it when it tasted of His flesh.
And Isaiah, foretelling this, did cry:
    Hell, said he, was embittered
When it encountered Thee in the lower regions.

It was embittered, for it was abolished.
It was embittered, for it was mocked.
It was embittered, for it was slain.
It was embittered, for it was overthrown.
It was embittered, for it was fettered in chains.
It took a body, and met God face to face.
It took earth, and encountered Heaven.
It took that which was seen, and fell upon the unseen.

O Death, where is thy sting?
O Hell, where is thy victory?

Christ is risen, and thou art overthrown!
Christ is risen, and the demons are fallen!
Christ is risen, and the angels rejoice!
Christ is risen, and life reigns!
Christ is risen, and not one dead remains in the grave.
For Christ, being risen from the dead,
Is become the first-fruits of those who have fallen asleep.

To Him be glory and dominion
    Unto ages of ages.

A special thank you and congratulations to Bob this Easter afternoon, for being a music director at her church, making beautiful praise music all morning long, including making the children’s choir sound angelic. It was a lot of work, but now it’s over. I know how hard that is; we were at church at 6:30am before dawn with our music director getting our choirs ready. You done good! And now it’s over, so I hope that you can enjoy the rest of the day in peace, and the rest of the beautiful Wisconsin spring in joy!

    • Bob says:

Thanks, Grunt. I had been hoping for a nice, peaceful, relaxing day once church was over, but no such luck. My adult kids and their significant others all sort of invited themselves over for dinner, allegedly to celebrate the teenager’s birthday (she turned 18 on Sunday), and I had to scramble to rustle up enough food to feed everyone. It had been such a hectic week that I hadn’t even thought to get something out of the freezer and defrost it, and I hadn’t been to the grocery store in a while, so the refrigerator and cupboards were sort of bare. But my son’s girlfriend brought potato salad and fruit, and my older daughter brought cheesecake, and I threw together some tilapia and vegetables and stuff, and we got by, although it was far from being a normal holiday dinner. I was exhausted even before everyone descended on me (Holy Week always wears me out!), so I’m even more worn out now. I’d like to take this week off and just vegetate, but I don’t think that’s gonna happen. My little friend Lily (who just turned five) will be coming to my house tomorrow, so I guess I’d better get to bed now. Nighty-night…

  6. A VERY BLESSED EASTER TO ALL OF MY FELLOW CHRISTIANS HERE AT 4GFC. I wish each and every one of you and your families the Blessings of this Glorious TRIUMPHANT Day! I also want to thank my Lord for all of you and this special place we have to share together our Brotherhood and Sisterhood through Christ Who Is the Living Covenant that draws us together in Unity of Faith! God Be Praised!

(there are actually 52 uses listed) πŸ˜‰

    • This is cool. I don’t mean to go full-retard-geek here, but the Atlas rocket engineers used to tell us about WD-40 being developed by GD or one of their contractors to spray on the stainless steel rocket tanks to displace water (hence “WD”) and keep them from corroding. Since the stuff is basically just mineral oil and volatile solvents to make it spray easy, it always seemed to me that it might not really be the best stuff to use on some things, even though they’re real good about marketing it as a 1000-uses kind of product. It was developed to displace water and penetrate stuff, so it’s good for that. But if you really need to actually lubricate something – like bearings or hinges or car parts, you’re way better off using graphite axle grease or spray lithium grease or even moly-disulfide lube or just some basic motor oil. Does anybody use WD-40 on guns? I don’t know, but I would think it’d be too thin for that.

      • barnslayer says:

I currently use WD40 on my shotgun. The gas cylinder is mostly aluminum and gets filthy in one day of skeet. I dump it in a plastic cup of diluted Simple Green Pro HD and leave it while I clean the rest of the parts with M Pro-7. After scrubbing the gas cylinder with an old toothbrush I give it a good spray with WD40 to get rid of the cleaning solution. I follow that up with a light coat of gun oil, mostly to keep the carbon from sticking as much. I can’t swear for the rust prevention of WD40 since I’ve always used oil as a final coating (aluminum does’t rust) and I’m compulsive about cleaning firearms as soon as I can. I was tempted to get a small ultrasonic tank but have seen aluminum surfaces get attacked by this.

You know…? When you can have humor in the midst of a “cold-war” between those who die to live free under GOD, and a ruling government power (this “power” makes itself “god”) that makes life dangerous and difficult to live, now THAT is what you call “LIVING”! You are at the edge where you realize your life can be turned upside down in a heartbeat and even TAKEN! Then and ONLY then, do you realize the blessed life that your Creator has gifted you with, how valuable it is, and why it is sooo important to fight for that “RIGHT” – endowed upon you by GOD, for the future of your children. FREEDOM! We here at 4GFC, and those out there like us, are “LIVING”! Viva Christo Rey! For GOD, FAMILY, and COUNTRY!
