  1. Bob can’t take her cats anywhere. This is why they’re “stay-at-home” cats. Hat tip: Wirecutter.

Looks like WordPress has a problem today with updating images. Until they get that fixed, it will be a fairly photo-free day…

  2. Wirecutter also posted, today, this awesome photo of David Ortiz. Read the sub-heading!

It looks like Ortiz is wearing a religious scapular under his jersey. For non-Catholics or Catholics who don’t know, a scapular is a miniature form of the military tunic that used to be worn as a sign of service to the king, like these tunics shown being worn by the Three Musketeers.

The tunic indicates sworn faithfulness to the king, but the large image of a cross on the front flap and the back flap shows primary allegiance to Christ. When you see someone wearing miniature versions today, they’re saying that they are a warrior for Christ. This is true even if a saint (such as St. Francis or Our Lady of Guadalupe) is pictured on the panels, in addition to the Cross. That just indicates a devotion to that saint as a “captain” in Christ’s army.

Nope. It’s just some Red Sox colored bling:

      video here…

      • Heh! Is MY face “red.” Thanks, Barn!

      • You sure, Barn? I can’t find anything about any Red Sox bling that looks like that. But it looks more like this:

You may be right on that one! That red cord and the rectangle looks very much like the pic I posted. Slight differences at the top of the rectangle. Can’t tell about the middle. Could be light reflection. When you first described the scapular as a miniature tunic I thought it would be some sort of shirt worn under his jersey.

          • Yeah, it’s kind of a weird thing. More like a “jewelrified” tunic. Or symbolic. And I can’t tell what he’s got on the rectangle either, but it looked a little bit like the Risen Christ with his arms outstretched, and that reflective thing looked like some metal crosses that I’ve seen attached to scapulars, like this.

Also, Ruiz is kinda reverent about his mom (Angela Rosa Ruiz, I think), who died a few years back in the Dominican Republic, and she’s the kind of person who might have given him a trinket like that. Whenever he makes a homerun, he points upward and looks upward, apparently in her (mom’s)honor.

Saw this over at Grouchy Old Cripple. I leave the link cause it’s sorta large.
