Today is August 15, the Feast of the Assumption of Mary. It is an important holiday in the church year for Catholics and Orthodox Christians, who celebrate this holiday two weeks later using the Julian calendar. Orthodox Christian call it the Dormition of the Theotokos (Mother of God). If you search for those terms (Feast of the Assumption, Dormition of the Theotokos), you will find plenty of information.

For non-Catholics and non-Orthodox Christians: we believe that Mary died and was assumed into heaven body and soul, befitting the Mother of God, she who is higher than all the angels, and as the Archangel Gabriel said, she who is the most highly favored daughter, and who all nations shall call blessed No, we do not worship Mary. That is reserved alone to Jesus Christ in the Trinity of Father, Son and Holy Spirit. We revere Mary, and exult as the angels did when she accepted the task of bearing Christ into the world. We ask for her protection and intercession.

ZurichMike is very devoted to the Blessed Mother, as is his mother. In that spirit, I would like to offer some Marian-themed music to you.

First, this transcendent, mystical chant: Salve Mater Misericordiae (Hail, Mother of Mercy)

Next, here is the basic tune for Hail, Queen of Heaven, the Ocean Star.

Here is that same song by modern Latvian composer Rihards Dubra. It is ethereal in parts — my favorite part is around 8:35 in the clip. You need to be very relaxed when you listen to this โ€“ close your eyes, imagine a maritime setting, light glinting off the water, the sea surge moving a ship into the sunset, waves slipping on the beach, etc. It may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but I find it very moving.

And lastly, here is Hail, Holy Queen, but not the over-the-top version from Sister Act, but a stirring, magisterial version, especially the second verse (without the organ):

  2. “James Bond” parachutist from 2012 Olympics killed while wing-diving in Switzerland.
This had to be particularly violent. If you’ve seen these wing divers flying in the mountains, they skim past ridges at very high speeds, probably well over 100 mph (maybe close to 200 at times), with just a helmet and a nylon suit. Hitting a ridge, like this guy did, makes for a very bad day.

“Families with individuals who are serving or formerly served in the armed forces, including such families that have members of the armed forces who have had multiple deployments outside the United States.”

What the f$5k!!!!! I can’t….I’m so f’in’ angry right now….. I think my blood pressure just spiked.

    • It’s ok. The 4th Amendment has already been discarded. Spiked by executive order.

      • freedom1781 says:

I am SOOOO sick of all the libs in my office. Some are still defending Obama. With all the b.s. that I have to wade through on a daily basis at work, I just have to walk away from them. I can’t deal with their crap anymore. All week long last week, it was “Republicans are evil…blah, blah, blah….” I’d love to hear their responses to this little Obamacare nugget. I’m sure they’ll think that I’m just making it up. Whatever. They’re all assholes.

        • What A Hoot says:

Try looking at one of the libbies, when they are going on about the evil republican this and the evil republican that and say, very sincerely, “Thank you”. They will look at you but will not realize until later when they are at home. They won’t believe it so will set you up again to see if they indeed heard a ‘thank you’. This time, since they are waiting which means they will hear what you say, say “Do you really think that of me?” Smile.
The third time is where it gets sticky so can just offer, “Have a blessed day”. OR say, “Twice I stated to you that I am one of the people you talk of as evil. To continue to talk this way about me is harassment and workplace bullying. I have confidence you don’t want to continue to hurt me so let’s get on with having a good day blessing one another.

Limbaugh, Hannity, Levin eyed as 2016 GOP debate moderators
It would be nice to see debates not moderated by people working for the other side.

    • freedom1781 says:

Yep. But this’ll be for the GOP primary debates, so nobody will really watch them. At least not dumbass low info voters..ahem…Democrats..but I repeat myself.

  7. Mellencamp’s from roughly the same part of southern Indiana where my family farmed. I’ve always enjoyed much of his music, but he was always a hot-headed, prog idiot. He even hated Reagan. This is exactly the kind of stupid beatdown crime that I’d expect his sons to go to prison for.

Too bad the guy didn’t blast them both.
Old John must be a proud dad.

      • Three against one on the guy’s own front porch. My guess is he’d insulted one of them earlier in the day, so they returned, in number, to give him some “facial fractures.”

        • barnslayer says:

          Maybe he said something like:
“What’s your last name this week …… Mellencamp, or Cougar or Cougar-Mellencamp?”

          • texan59 says:

I remember him when he was Johnny Cougar and finally morphed into his present day state of dum-bassery. And he was a much better singer before he got so smart about all this other crap. ๐Ÿ™„

    • texan59 says:

Grunt, even on the home court, you know these little punks aren’t gonna do more than 2-3 days in jail. A little cash will trade hands and all will be forgotten. I’m afraid. ๐Ÿ‘ฟ

If anyone wondered why the print media is dying. THEY don’t even read what they write.

    • This seems like a big deal. I saw something about this earlier and wanted to track down some details, but haven’t had a chance. Does this mean we won’t be able to get any more european or Russian ammo? And how will it affect companies here, Like CZ-USA, or Berretta-USA? Seems like there’s a reason why this stuff is supposed to go through Congress. Hmmmmm?

    • texan59 says:

How much weight will this carry since it is part of a treaty that very likely will not see the light of day out of the Senate? I don’t know. ๐Ÿ‘ฟ ๐Ÿ‘ฟ

      • This EO is unrelated to the UN Small Arms Treaty, but it mimics one of the aspects of the Treaty, and as an EO, is not subject to Senate review. At all. Congress may, of course, defund the enforcement of it, if they have the nads to do that.

        • texan59 says:

According to wiki, only two EO’s have ever been overturned. As for the nads, I pretty much know the answer to that. ๐Ÿ‘ฟ

The boys from Duck Dynasty set a record. Kudos to rednecks with a little religion. This should get a few lefty heads to spin. ๐Ÿ˜†
