Don’t remember if I already posted this, but it’s a day-brightener. In Switzerland there is a type of wrestling called “Schwingen” — sturdy mountain lads, usually farmers, square off in a ring of sawdust on a field, wearing burlap shorts over their trousers so the opponent can grip there and try to knock the other off balance and pin him on his back. The winner, as a gesture of respect, must brush the sawdust off the loser’s back when they are done. It’s quite the traditional sport here. In any event, the Canton of Appenzell, makers of fine Appenzeller cheese, made an advertisement, wishing Michael Bless (in the film called Bless Michael — last name is put first for wrestlers) good luck. The old man in the advertisement is wearing traditional garb for Appenzeller men, including a little spoon earring — mark of a master cheese maker (the spoon harks back to when the cheese maker had a spoon hanging off his belt, at the ready to test milk upon delivery at his cheese making facility. The advertisement is very funny. By the way, Michael Bless is a big guy at 6’2″ tall and weighing about 245 pounds.

    • That was very cool, ZMike! Lotta grins with that one. And it required every one of your explanations. This Swiss stuff is complicated! 🙂 The old man reminds me of my father-in-law. Especially the way he scowls at you just before he kicks your ass. 😉

Never saw this one coming! Al-jazeera can’t find any advertisers. Boohoo!

  4. Rocky Mountain Airshow last weekend.
I was hugely jealous of my kid over the weekend. He was part of a security team that guarded the warbirds on the tarmac at the air show here in Colorado over the last few days. He was particularly impressed with the only remaining B-29 and the P-51s from the CAF.

It’s good to know that the civilian flight teams are still putting on some shows this year, despite the absence of military aircraft due to sequester.
