Boehner,Cantor about to surrender, give democrats everything they demand.
They’ll take all the blame for the shutdown with nothing to show for it.Who couldn’t see it coming?

    • You mind if I make this a separate post, Tex? This is pretty compelling coming from Horowitz. I find it hard to believe that people fail to admit the obvious credibility of these claims and the serious people who are stating them clearly. It’s probably too late, but might as well do our part to get them out there more. Thanks for the link!

No problem. It is a little deeper than a lot of stuff that I post, but I think it is one that needs to be out there. Even if it’s just in our little piece of the world. πŸ™‚

KD @ The Market Ticker on “default” – 10/8/2013

“To “default” on an obligation it must first be a legal obligation that you are compelled (by contract or otherwise) to perform.

There are none of those in the context of political promises. Among political promises, I remind you, are Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid.

Those are not contracts. They’re political promises and subject to revision any time Congress would like. Such as now, for instance.

Want to argue with that? Go look at your annual Social Security statement — either the older printed ones or the newfangled online one. It clearly states that Congress may change the law and thus what you receive any time it wants. There have been multiple attempts to challenge those changes in the past (as occurred when Reagan changed the retirement and tax profile) and every one of them has failed in the courts. This is settled law going back decades folks, and no amount of whining changes that fact.”

I would also add that this can and probably will include your 401(k), 403(b) and possibly your pension plan – if you were fortunate enough to have one. What they giveth, they can taketh.

    • This is good to know, Tex. It’s why I took the extraordinary step this year (possibly extraordinarily stupid) of cashing out my 401k. Because of this we will suffer unimaginable taxation rapage next year, but the money will be under our own control, not Congress’s. I still have a great deal of anxiety over this, but the possibility of additional confiscation is becoming very real. I still think I’m going to regret it, but who knows. Yolo, right? πŸ˜‰

    • “And on the eight day god wrote” 😦

  3. Yesterday was the anniversary of Che’s death by firing squad in Bolivia. We were all busy celebrating Swino’s death yesterday, so I think we should also have some beers tonight to commemorate Ernesto (Che) getting acute lead poisoning. Who’s with me?

    • Godspeed, Commander Carpenter.

I didn’t realize that he was born in Boulder, CO. Or that Chris Kraft was so pissed at him for ignoring one of his messages that he swore he’d never fly again. But, you know, he survived a harrowing flight, and it’s not really the pilot’s fault when they’re overloaded with error lights and malfunctions like he was. Get Kraft up there with his own voice yelling in his ear when he’s about to die and see how he does.

Thanks for this, Tex! I hadn’t seen it.

It’s sick and twisted. Seven years huh? That would put the beginning square in Dubya’s reign. I’m liking him less and less every day. πŸ‘Ώ
