    Eden Isles, La………………….

    ??????????

    👿

    • WTH is that all about????

      • What is it gator seasons? And the military needs to make a few extra bucks?

        • I don’t know, but I find the presence of green uniforms and so many big guns out in residential, domestic U.S. areas very disturbing.

I googled “Eden Isles, La – gunboats”, and found that there is a “Special Boat Squadron” (SeAL transporters) based about a day’s cruise away from Eden Isles, and that the SeALs train in the bayous around the area. It seems odd/strange that they would have been cruising through what seems to be a residential area – but at least they were going at a reasonable rate of speed and not creating disruptive wakes, etc.
They were probably on the way to some training area – but if they hadn’t been through that neighborhood before, I can see that the residents might be curious.
As it stands, I don’t think that it was anything nefarious – just a bit out of the ordinary for the people there. (Sort of like when I lived further out in the country and would get “Nightstalker”-type helicopters flying over at 100 feet in the middle of the night (all-black, no lights, etc.)

            • I totally think you’re right, Sol. I thought the same thing when I saw Louisiana as the location, with Biloxi and all the other facilities nearby. It’s legit, I’m sure, but it was my understanding that there is a fairly strict prohibition (I forget the Latin name) against transporting troops and equipment through public places with guns out and manned, as they clearly are on all those boats. Point being that they should never appear to be an “occupying force.” Those guns should be broken down off their mounts or covered or at least have NO MAN standing ready at them as they idle through those places. That kind of thing has been a frequent violation lately, and that’s what I find disturbing. When I grew up near military facilities, sometimes living within a few yards of the fence, we were always happy to see the fatigues in public and convoys on the roads. But guns at the ready, NEVER.

    The Man in the Glass
    by Dale Wimbrow, (c) 1934
    1895-1954

When you get what you want in your struggle for self,
And the world makes you King for a day,
Just go to the mirror and look at yourself,
And see what that man has to say.

For it isn’t your Father, or Mother, or Wife,
Whose judgment upon you must pass.
The fellow whose verdict counts most in your life
Is the man staring back from the glass.

You may be like Jack Horner and “chisel” a plum,
And think you’re a wonderful guy,
But the man in the glass says you’re only a bum
If you can’t look him straight in the eye.

He’s the fellow to please, never mind all the rest,
For he’s with you clear up to the end,
And you’ve passed your most dangerous, difficult test
If the man in the glass is your friend.

You may get what you want down the pathway of years,
And get pats on the back as you pass,
But your final reward will be heartaches and tears
If you’ve cheated the guy in the glass.
