It’s always a big deal when your enemy gives you an awesome nickname.
The Marines earned this one in WW1.

    • barnslayer says:

That was a helluva mission they flew. From the take off to a uncertain landing they had their hands full.
I recommend two films on this:
      “Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo” 1944
      “The Purple Heart” 1944

      • I’ll get ahold of those. So far, the only one I’d seen is the last part of Bay and Bruckheimer’s “Pearl Harbor,” which depicts the Tokyo raid.

        • barnslayer says:

The two I mentioned are wartime Hollywood war dramas. The Purple Heart focuses on the treatment our AAF received at the hands of the Japanese. Despite the purpose and date of the film, things were much worse than shown.

  5. Rough day in the middle islands of the Philippines. May be 10,000 dead. Not good.

We’re going to do a post later this afternoon on the possible places that might get hammered by this 2500 lb space junk as it reenters tonight. Cross your fingers. Knight is hoping for a direct hit on his aging Dodge pickup. πŸ˜‰

SATVIEW has a pretty good real-time tracking feature to show you where it is so far. Right now, as I write this, it’s directly over Howland and Baker Islands in the Pacific, right where Amelia Earhart disappeared.

Current prediction for debris field: Antarctica or over the Pacific Rim, including Australia, California, Japan, etc.

Bummers! It didn’t land on my truck. πŸ˜‰ Just kidding! I love my Dodge. My truck continues to rock on… 283+ thousand miles. I wonder how many miles that satellite had under its belt.

      • Whoa, that’s a lot of miles on that Dodge. Where I come from, they usually rust in half by then.

        • Knight4GFC says:

Same here! I live on the wettest side of the Big Island and on top of that, our rain is acidic because of the volcano. I just try to take care of my beast, and it takes care of me. πŸ™‚ I so much like my Ram, that I am considering rebuilding it rather than getting another one. Only time and money. πŸ˜€

  7. solaratov says:

Has anybody noticed how google celebrated the Marines’ birthday?

    Hint: The bastards didn’t. πŸ‘Ώ 😦

  8. solaratov says:

Can you say “irony”, boys and girls?

Sad ceiling cat is sad. 😦

    • barnslayer says:

That sucker looks like it was hardwired considering the size of the mess. Lucky the whole friggin house didn’t catch fire.

  9. I think Barry must have gone to the Philippines to survey damage. What a guy.
