Climate Scientists’ 97% Consensus Claim in Total Collapse

mannchef52frenchie-233x300When President Obama announced his climate plan last year, he made a big point of bragging about how overwhelming was the consensus in the scientific community that “the planet is warming and human activity is contributing to it.”  He further claimed that: “Ninety-seven percent of scientists, including, by the way, some who originally disputed the data, have now put that to rest.”

Well, that’s hard to argue with, if true.  Since then, pundits have been throwing that “97%” number around pretty liberally, and with great relish.  One university professor did so on this very blog just a few weeks ago.  But it turns out, unfortunately for the pundits, that the number is a complete sham.  As quoted today in The Daily Caller and other sources, Dr. David Legates, a geology professor at the University of Delaware made this criticism of one of the original papers making the 97% claim: “It is astonishing that any journal could have published a paper claiming a 97% climate consensus when on the authors’ own analysis the true consensus was well below 1%.”

Get that?  We’ve been told we must bankrupt our nation and all the developed world and we must do it now because of a “97%” consensus among scientists, when the real number may be much less than 1%.  Other analysis of the consensus have placed the true number at closer to 0.3%. Read more here about the current round of accusations and lawsuits.  In past centuries, snake oil sales on that level would result in public executions.  I’d be satisfied with public humiliation.  How about you?  I guess this is a start…
