More than a year in planning. Multi-national forces staging for months in England under strict secrecy. Tens of thousands of soldiers supported by 5,000 ships and 13,000 aircraft. They finally get the ‘go’ order and are packed into troop transports for the perilous trip across the Channel. Imagine what went through the mind of every man. This may be his last day. He thinks of his family and all the plans he’d made for the future. He looks at the man next to him. Will he make it to the beach? Will he even get out of the landing craft?
They know there are thousands of machine guns and artillery pieces to challenge the invasion. They never hesitate because they’ve been trained for this. They didn’t ask for it, but it came. Millions of people were dying and it had to be stopped. The waves buffet the craft from side to side and it stops short of the beach in three feet of water. The ramp flops down as you hear the chatter of machine guns. Your heart pounds as you grip your rifle. Time to go.

I was in my car at 4:30 AM when I heard the despot who currently occupies the White House read some words that somebody wrote for him. I had to turn it off. I could not bear to hear him speak words that were as empty as his soul.

In the foreground is a man who hardly deserves to be on the same ground the men in the background consecrated. Until the United States was settled nearly every war had been fought for conquest. With the emergence of America as a global power and a beacon for those craving the opportunity to live free we have never taken up arms except to liberate an oppressed people.  4400 lost their lives 70 years ago today. Thousands more suffered the same fate in the following days. All we asked from the countries we freed was enough ground to bury our dead.

The world has never seen the like of these warriors and never will again. It is our responsibility to teach our children about what these men sacrificed so that they will not have died in vain. Never forget.

Interesting indeed. “Create a more complete picture of the past.” We could use a few people like Craig, to record and create a more complete picture of the present times here. Right now the big picture is fragmented… out of focus for many Americans.

Lest we forget. 70 years ago today

  2. Thank you to all who have served in our military!

The ondeck circle. U.S. Army Rangers

Rangers getting the job done. Yeah they were under fire!

Mission accomplished, some Rangers lead German POWs to the beach and captivity.

  4. This is good. The French are understandably not impressed with our POTUS for chewing gum like a retard at the 70th D-Day ceremony at Normandy. Hat tip: iOTW.

Does anybody else remember when ‘Bent Penis’ Clinton walked along the shore at Omaha Beach and “conveniently” found some stones on an otherwise empty beach to form into a cross. The media was there and lapped it up like a starving kitten after a bowl of cream.

He was a phoney as his tears at Ron Brown’s funeral…. but he actually tried to look like he cared.
The moslem-in-chief has taken to deliberate public displays of distain for all things we cherish. In his case merde might be an undeserved compliment.

A D-Day Veteran Politely Declines Obama Invitation
Take George Ciampa, the most vibrant and spry 89-year-old I have ever met. In 1944, he landed in Normandy as a soldier assigned to the 84th Graves Registration Unit. “I spent the next few years going from France to Germany helping to bury people,” he told me. He was involved in setting up the temporary military cemeteries in Normandy that have now become stirring memorials to our fallen dead.
This week, George received a call from the White House, who said they knew he would be over in France during D-Day, and wondered if he would attend a private meeting the White House was arranging for veterans with President Obama.

George thought about it for awhile and concluded he just couldn’t. “I have so many issues with the president’s policies, including the most recent ones,” he told me ruefully. “I just couldn’t convince myself to do it.”

This is a man with titanium balls. He could give a fig about political correctness after what he’s seen and done in his lifetime.

‘If I don’t come home, there’s so much I mean to tell you…’: Heartbreaking last letters of the men who didn’t make it through D-Day revealed

The cache of poignant notes reveal soldiers’ thoughts ahead of battle
They spoke of high morale but were apprehensive of what lay ahead
Some of the letters arrived home after telegrams informing of their death
Captain Norman Skinner, 38, died on D-Day and wrote to his wife
Another to perish was Canadian Rifleman Glenn Dickin, 22
it is certain there were many such letters from men facing uncertainty.Every one noble and heartfelt in their own way.

I don’t know how completely they embraced it but my Dad said they were trained to think of themselves as already dead. Forget about going home again. Now do your job.

  9. Pistol Pete says:

Because He Is Black, Americans Suffer and Die
Clearly, no amount of unprecedented unlawful power-grabs, narcissistic behavior, blatant lies, and ignoring of the Constitution will sway the mainstream media and the Democrats from their loyalty to Obama. Why? The answer is that Obama is black, which makes him their ultimate weapon of mass destruction – able to nuke traditional America. Obama’s mission is to cram his radical socialist/progressive dream for America down our throats.

    • barnslayer says:

      He’s at most half black.
Give us an all-black president like Allen West and I’ll be willing to take my chances on the suffering part.

      • Pistol Pete says:

He renounced his half-whiteness from his mother at an early age…there were no unfair advantages in it.He used his white-financed education to affirmative action his way from Columbia(allegedly) to Harvard to the state senate to the US senate to the presidency.all with no trace of his college transcripts, not a word from anybody who was his classmate or any student of his supposed constitutional law classes. You would be hard-pressed to find a record of any vote he ever cast and the few bills he offered in the Illinois senate were written by his friend Emil Phillips and handed to him to take credit for.The mans is a total of nothing.

      • Amen. Except I’m not even sure we know that much about his parentage. Show me a single photo of Stanley Ann pregnant and then we’d be halfway there. There’s a British MI6 dude who claimed that the CIA DNA tested him as not related at all to grandpa Dunham. (Ann’s DNA was not available.) For all we know, he could be a space alien, or worse, the love child of one of the Rolling Stones.
