Thanks, Buddy! I’m an old fart, now, for sure. But I still got a ways to go before I’m in the same fightin’ shape you’re in. I got to get down under 190 lbs so I can haul enough gear I’m not an embarrassment to my kids. Got my youngest boy fooled, though. He’s such a gear-head he carries everything in his pack. I don’t even bother to carry half the ruck I used to, since I know I can always “borrow” it from him. That’s what they’re for, right? 😀
Hey, here’s the rifle I ended up with this time around. It’s not as fancy or expensive as that POF .308 I was looking at, but it’s got old-school quality, you know?
Ultimately, I want to get a side-mount scope, because the iron sights on it are pretty good, and I want to be able to use ’em.
But a short scope on the top rail might work.

Excellent choice!!! You are, indeed, well-armed. For the scope mount, go Sadlak. The Airborne STEEL mount. (NOT aluminum). They’re expensive as hell – but worth it. And, you’ll be getting other parts from Sadlak, anyway…to inprove it a bit.
